Early positioning decides these matters.
Most family law matters are not decided in a courtroom. They are decided in the first months after separation: where everyone lives, how the children's week runs, what is said in writing, what is disclosed and what is quietly done. Good decisions in that window shorten everything that follows. We act in parenting, property settlement, divorce and protection order matters across Brisbane and South East Queensland, with particular depth in property settlements for people with real assets at stake.
What we act in
The first conference
Family matters begin here: a conference with the Principal, at a fixed fee quoted when you book. You leave with a written map: your position, the realistic range of outcomes, what to do and not do next, and a fixed fee for the next stage. If you engage us, the conference fee is credited against your first invoice.
There is no automatic 50/50, with children or with property. There is evidence, positioning and preparation.
Questions people ask first
Is custody automatically 50/50?
No. There is no automatic split in Australian family law. Arrangements are decided on the children's best interests, on the evidence in your matter. Read: how parenting arrangements are really decided.
Do I have to go to mediation before court?
In parenting matters, usually yes: a family dispute resolution certificate is required before filing, with exceptions for urgency and safety. Getting the sequence right saves months.
How is property divided?
Through a four-step process, not a formula: the pool is identified, contributions and future needs are weighed, and the outcome must be just and equitable. Superannuation counts. Read: the four-step process.
What should I do first after separating?
Get a clear map early. The first weeks decide more than most people expect: living arrangements, the children's week, what goes in writing. A first conference exists precisely for this.
What will it cost?
Family matters are quoted in staged fixed fees, in writing, before each stage starts. The first conference fee is quoted when you book and credited against your first invoice if you engage us.
